ODON – A routine traffic stop for speeding in Daviess County on Friday, April 25th, resulted in the arrest of a Westphalia man after police determined he was intoxicated and found drugs.

Indiana State Police Master Trooper Gaven Wilson was patrolling near Odon when he observed a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit. Upon stopping the car, Trooper Wilson made contact with the driver, identified as Monty Sloan.

During the interaction, Trooper Wilson noted that Sloan displayed visible signs of impairment. A subsequent search of Sloan allegedly yielded suspected marijuana.

Sloan was then taken to Daviess Community Hospital for a chemical test. Following the test, Monty B. Sloan, 63, of Westphalia, IN, was arrested and transported to the Daviess County Jail on the following preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

Master Trooper Gaven Wilson was the arresting officer in this case. Senior Trooper Andrew Watson and the Washington City Police Department assisted him.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
