Granby police seized nearly 4,000 tablets, cannabis, cannabis concentrate, cash and equipment allegedly used for drug trafficking during searches of two residences on Tuesday morning.
Investigators searched homes on rue du Centre and avenue du Parc in Granby on July 14 following an investigation by the Service de police de Granby’s Crimes initiés and ACCES Cannabis squads.
Police said the investigation began after information was received from members of the public.
Officers seized more than 100 grams of cannabis, more than 100 grams of cannabis concentrate and nearly 4,000 tablets. Police did not specify what substances the tablets were believed to contain.
Investigators also seized more than $2,000 in Canadian currency, along with scales, small bags and other equipment police said was used for trafficking.
Man and woman considered principal suspects
Police identified the principal suspects in the investigation as a man and a woman in their 30s. The man is known to police.
The suspects could eventually face criminal charges related to drug trafficking, according to the police service.
Police did not say whether either suspect was arrested. No charges had been announced when the information was released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The police service thanked residents who provide information about suspected criminal activity.
“Without their collaboration, certain investigations could not be completed,” police said.
The statement added that without investigations, police cannot make arrests, conduct searches or remove illegal substances from circulation.
Investigation conducted under ACCES Cannabis
The investigation was conducted as part of ACCES Cannabis, a provincial initiative created by the Quebec government in 2018 and coordinated by the Ministry of Public Security.
The program is intended to strengthen efforts against the illegal cannabis supply and reduce its availability in Quebec, particularly among young people.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the Service de police de Granby at 450-776-3333.
Information can also be provided anonymously through Échec au crime by calling 1-800-711-1800 or submitting a report online
