(WSET) — AAA is warning about the dangers of getting behind the wheel under the influence of marijuana.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety conducted studies that found that of the people surveyed, over 84.9 % said they consume cannabis the day they drive.

53% said they consumed the substance within an hour of less of driving.

AAA Mid-Atlantic Spokesperson Morgan Dean said it’s important to make a plan before partaking.

“If you are impaired behind the wheel, you are a danger to yourself, everybody in your vehicle, and everybody in and around that roadway, and we do not want to see that happen out there,” Dean said.

Dean said side effects include fatigue, brain fog, changes in perception and hallucinations, among others, making for dangerous conditions behind the wheel.

46.9% of people surveyed said they believe they drive the same under the influence of marijuana as if they weren’t.
