Marijuana found in hotel room

Athens-Clarke County Police Department officers responded to a call from the manager of the Wyndham Hotel at 255 North Ave. on April 16 at around 9:36 a.m. regarding a hotel room that the manager had heard a “heated argument” from.

When police approached the hotel room, they heard voices and noticed a strong marijuana smell. Once they made contact with the occupants, they found a man and a woman, asking them to come into the hallway.

The man acted nervous “as if he were looking for an exit,” according to the police report. He gave officers a name and identification that were later determined to not be his and was reluctant to cooperate with officers. He eventually handed over a small bag of marijuana and police noticed a grocery bag with over $1000 in cash.

Once his real name was determined by other officers, they found multiple warrants and the man was arrested. Due to the marijuana and cash, police contacted a drug task force and the investigation is ongoing.

DUI committed off West Broad Street

A man was arrested at the corner of South Church Street and West Broad Street on a DUI charge at around 1:53 a.m. on April 16, with a blood alcohol content of 0.201, above the legal limit of 0.08. He was arrested after allegedly leaving a fraternity event and getting into a single vehicle accident, where his car’s front axle broke.

Throughout his interactions with officers, the man gave conflicting answers and failed a field sobriety test, eventually admitting to drinking and driving. He requested he be transported to jail.

He was first taken to the ACCPD downtown substation to supply breath samples and was later taken to Clarke County Jail.

DUI committed on East Clayton Street

ACCPD officers responded to a call from a Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste employee who suspected that a woman was driving under the influence after she hit another car at around 6:44 a.m. on April 13 on East Clayton Street.

The woman failed a field sobriety test performed by officers and gave conflicting information about her drinks the previous night. She was determined to be unfit to drive and was arrested for DUI and failure to maintain lane.
