HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. – Drug task force agents found 85 pounds of marijuana inside a horse trailer during a traffic stop on I-40, according to the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.
The traffic stop happened Wednesday, January 22, in Haywood County when a pickup truck carrying a horse trailer failed to maintain its lane of travel, according to the drug task force.
Agents said they “developed reasonable suspicion that more criminal activity was occurring” and let Canine Athena sniff around the pickup truck. The canine smelled the marijuana and alerted agents, giving the drug task force probable cause to carry out the search, according to the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.
Inside the trailer were 85 pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags. The drug task force said that the driver left Oklahoma with the marijuana and was en route to Nashville.
One man was arrested and charged with traffic and narcotic charges.
