Officers discovered a large shipment of marijuana along I-40 after Mack, Arkansas Highway Police’s newest K-9, detected the drugs.

ARKANSAS, USA — The Arkansas Highway Police (AHP) uncovered a shipment of illegal marijuana in a vehicle during a safety inspection along I-40 on Monday.

During the vehicle inspection, officers discovered seven pallets of marijuana after Mack, AHP’s newest K-9 officer, alerted officers to the presence of drugs.

The shipment was approximately 4,900 pounds and was worth $16 million.

AHP Chief Jeff Holmes stated that this case is one of the top five largest seizures on record.

Holmes expressed his appreciation for the officer and the K-9 who prevented the shipment.

“Our officers are trained to detect illegal activity while inspecting commercial motor vehicles,” Holmes said. “In this instance, the officer, alongside his K-9 partner, Mack, was simply doing his job – ultimately preventing a significant shipment of illegal drugs from reaching their destination.”

The driver of the vehicle was a 27-year-old who was believed to be traveling from California to Georgia.

The driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
