BROOKLAND, Ark. — A woman is facing 12 charges each of felony child endangerment and introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person after she was arrested for allegedly allowing her children to ingest marijuana and THC edibles in Brookland.

The probable cause affidavit states that at 10:40 a.m. on Jan. 24, 2025, Detective Dustin Norwood with the Brookland Police Department was notified of an alleged child maltreatment case. The complainant was an investigator with the Department of Human Services (DHS).

DHS reported a minor victim said on Jan. 23 that her mother had allowed her to ingest THC with edibles and her vape pen. DHS confirmed a drug test showed positive results in the victim for THC. DHS removed two children from the custody of the defendant on Jan. 23, after the affidavit said she admitted to allowing one of the children to consume THC and also admitted to smoking marijuana around both alleged victims.

The suspect was due back at DHS on Jan. 24 for an interview about the allegations. Once she walked out of the building, Detective Norwood was waiting outside and arrested her. The defendant reportedly signed a statement of rights form and agreed to speak without an attorney present.

During the interview, the detective reported the suspect made incriminating statements that she gave a six-year-old and a ten-year-old THC chocolate, THC honey, and allowed them to smoke her vape pen. The suspect also allegedly gave a 15-year-old THC chocolate, THC honey, and smoked marijuana around the child. All of the incidents are alleged from last summer to the present.

The explanation provided was that it was done as a deterrent for the alleged victims so that they would not use these substances.

Additionally, the suspect stated she had smoked marijuana while breastfeeding a fourth child. The affidavit alleges she also admitted to smoking marijuana around the child, who is currently 1 year old.

Detective Norwood wrote that he decided to charge the suspect with 12 counts each on both charges due to the suspect’s admission that she had given marijuana or smoked marijuana around the four children on 12 occasions total.
