DETROIT (WWJ) The search is on for the five suspects who broke into a marijuana dispensary on the city’s northwest side over the weekend, costing the business over $100,000 in building damage and stolen inventory; the owner said.
Police confirmed the burglary happened at the Jazz Club on Telegraph near McNichols on Saturday, March 1st, around 6:30 a.m.
Owner George Brikho told WWJ the call startled him out of bed. The alarm company told him five suspects were ransacking his store after tearing through the door with their SUV.
“By the time I got there, the damage was already done. The inventory was already stolen,” Brikho, who lives about 20 minutes away from his business, said.
The crime happened in a matter of two to three minutes, according to Brikho.
“(The suspects) were already gone before the cops got here.”
The burglars stole mostly flower (the buds); and did a lot of damage to the monitoring system, the microphone system, and the building structure, he said.
“We’re assuming about $100,000 (in stolen inventory and building damage).”
Brikho told WWJ he’s offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of the suspects.
He called the robberies “heartbreaking.”
“(The suspects) don’t know that we have a family. They don’t know that the economy affects every business…things are bad, inflation is high.”
The Jazz Club has only been in business for about a year. According to WXYZ; in that time, the small business has experienced three break-ins. The last one was just weeks ago.
“(These break-ins) are crippling. They’re paralyzing,” Brikho told WWJ.
Brikho said he’s always on edge: “We go home to have peace. And when we lay our head down to have peace, we don’t have peace because, in the back of our mind, we’re going to get that call and get startled out of bed. Our heart sinks to our stomach…”
Anyone with information on the break-in should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SpeakUp. Detroit Police are investigating the incident.
