SACRAMENTO, Calif. (FOX26) — The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) launched a statewide enforcement effort to ensure compliance with new hemp regulations.

The new regulations prohibit the sale of industrial hemp products containing detectable levels of THC or other intoxicating cannabinoids.

ABC agents visited 383 licensed establishments across the state over the weekend and identified violations in multiple cities, including two in Hanford.

More than 700 illegal products were also seized.

“ABC’s enforcement sweep demonstrated overwhelming compliance among licensees statewide,” ABC Director Joseph McCullough said. “Agents visited nearly 400 licensed establishments across California and 97 percent were in compliance with the new regulations.”

While these numbers are promising, 100 percent compliance is our goal.

Since the California Department of Public Health posted the emergency regulations on September 6, ABC has been actively informing licensees of the changes through advisories, emails, and direct communication.

Businesses found in violation could face legal or administrative actions, including the potential loss of their licenses.

ABC will continue to monitor compliance and encourage licensees to familiarize themselves with the new regulations.
