Two of the US’ biggest cannabis industry groups have joined forces, aiming to amplify the collective voice of nearly half a million employees as a new government administration is sworn in.

The National Cannabis Roundtable (NCR) and the US Cannabis Council (USCC) have merged to form the US Cannabis Roundtable, bringing together the pair’s lobbying weight and policy advocacy efforts.

As such, the US Cannabis Roundtable will represent some 13,000 cannabis businesses across 38 states, alongside 450,000 full-time employees.

Its formation comes at what it describes as a ‘pivotal time for the regulated cannabis industry,’ one at which a unified voice is more important than ever.

While many question marks remain over the incoming government’s stance on cannabis, CEO of Trulieve and Vice Chair of NCR, Kim Rivers, points out that the soon-to-be President Trump endorsed cannabis rescheduling and the SAFER Banking Act during his campaign.

“President Trump’s endorsement represents a sea change in cannabis policy and advocacy. For the first time in history, a Republican president endorsed these initiatives, and our new combined organisation will best position the industry to help the president get them over the finish line.”

Key initiatives the new organisation will be advocating for include:

Rescheduling cannabis to Schedule III,
Passing states’ rights legislation that allows each state to make its own decision on cannabis policy,
Enacting cannabis Banking Legislation (the SAFE/SAFER Banking Act) and
Ending the un-American scenario that allows foreign cannabis companies to list on the NASDAQ and NYSE while prohibiting state-licensed US cannabis companies from doing the same.
