Cameron Clarke is co-founder and CEO of Sunderstorm, an award-winning family of cannabis brands including Kanha edibles. His partnership with Thailand’s Beach Samui resort is leading Asia’s wellness revolution with the hotel incorporating Kanha’s gummies into its treatment roster.

The Beach Samui is Asia’s first licensed hotel offering cannabis-integrated therapies. What made you choose this specific property for Kanha‘s entry into the Thai hospitality market?

“Location, location, location! The Beach Samui is a sanctuary of holistic wellness, nestled in one of the most breathtaking locations in Thailand. The island of Ko Samui has been attracting significant interest, especially with the latest season of The White Lotus being filmed there, further enhancing its appeal. The property has extensive expertise in curating transformative wellness experiences, ranging from fitness retreats to reiki and sound healing, making it a perfect match for Kanha’s cannabis-enhanced therapies. Their existing use of botanicals and herbal medicine in spa treatments provided a seamless opportunity to integrate THC and CBD therapies, elevating the wellness experience even further.

“Beyond THC, we offer a diverse range of cannabinoids, including CBD, CBN, CBG, and THCV, each with distinct therapeutic properties. By leveraging our expertise in cannabis science, we can create bespoke formulations tailored to support specific wellness goals, whether it’s deep relaxation, improved sleep, pain relief or enhanced focus. These personalised formulations allow travellers to experience plant medicine in a way that aligns with their unique needs, making their journey to well-being even more intentional and transformative.”

How did the partnership between Kanha and The Beach Samui first develop, and what was the vision behind creating a cannabis-enhanced luxury resort experience?

“From the start, our shared vision was to elevate cannabis tourism and redefine luxury wellness by seamlessly integrating Kanha—a trusted brand with a decade of experience—into a world-class hospitality setting. I created this partnership because we believe in the power of the plant to heal people with a variety of conditions. Now people can fly in from all over the globe to gain access to cannabis healing treatments in a safe environment free from the stigma and in a beautiful and comfortable setting. Kanha wanted to help drive these offerings and help global consumers understand the value they can gain from these treatments.”

Thailand’s cannabis laws have evolved rapidly in recent years. How does operating in this emerging market differ from your experiences in established US cannabis markets such as California?

“The cannabis market in Thailand may still be emerging, but the plant is much more normalised than anywhere else in the world. Take the most recent season of White Lotus, filmed in Thailand—one of the lead characters literally goes into town searching for cannabis, reflecting how ingrained it’s becoming in the country’s evolving tourism experience. Thailand has not restricted the use of cannabis that way it is in the US. On site consumption is allowed and cannabis can be integrated much more deeply into the customer experience. This is not allowed in North America or other places around the globe. Thailand has loosened the regulations to allow for experiences which cannot be found elsewhere.

“At Kanha, we recognise that many travellers are experiencing cannabis-infused wellness for the first time, so consumer education is key. We prioritise guidance, responsible consumption, and curated experiences to ensure guests feel safe, informed, and fully able to enjoy the benefits of plant medicine in a luxury setting. This is why we chose to work with The Beach Samui. They already offered this environment to their guests. Their environment blended with our products is a perfect fit.”

From your personal perspective, how do you believe cannabis-enhanced therapies transform the holiday experience?

“Traditional vacations help you escape. Cannabis-enhanced vacations help you heal and rejuvenate.

Deeper relaxation & stress relief – Cannabis helps the body unwind on a deeper level, making every spa treatment, yoga session, or meditation even more impactful.

Better sleep & recovery – Travel can disrupt sleep, but cannabis-infused therapies can reset circadian rhythms, allowing guests to wake up refreshed and rejuvenated.

Heightened sensory experiences – Cannabis enhances mindfulness, helping guests fully absorb the sights, sounds, and sensations of their surroundings, making every moment richer.

Also travellers can connect better with their inner selves. Cannabis therapies are known to drive deep introspection.”

What feedback have you received from early guests experiencing cannabis therapies at The Beach Samui, and how has this shaped your offerings?

“The response has been overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing how powerful cannabis enhanced treatments can be in a luxury wellness setting. Guests love the deeper relaxation they feel with the cannabis-infused spa treatments and yoga sessions, leading us to offer more personalised dosing options for an optimal experience. Many guests also report better sleep and reduced anxiety, inspiring us to explore new sleep-enhancing therapies. In addition, we’ve seen high demand for workshops and guided cannabis experiences, so we’re developing more immersive wellness programmes. Every bit of feedback helps us better curate the experience, this is just the beginning.”

As both an entrepreneur and wellness advocate, what has been most personally rewarding about this partnership?

“The most fulfilling part of this journey has been breaking down the stigma around cannabis and reshaping the way people experience this magical plant and their relationship to it through wellness. Seeing cannabis go from taboo to transformative—and having a hand in that shift—is incredibly rewarding. Hearing from guests that they leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and truly reconnected to themselves is what fuels us. On a personal level, witnessing guests embrace this new approach to relaxation and self-care—whether through infused spa treatments, mindful edibles, or immersive nature experiences—has been the most rewarding part. Seeing people leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and reconnected with themselves is a testament to the vision we set out to achieve. Sunderstorm entered cannabis to help people transform their lives, and now, with our partnership with The Beach Samui, we’ve created a space where anyone can start that journey with ease, in the most breathtaking setting.”

How do you balance creating authentic Thai wellness experiences with introducing Kanha’s California-developed cannabis products?

“Our goal is to seamlessly blend Thailand’s rich wellness traditions with Kanha’s advanced cannabis formulations to create a truly immersive and authentic experience. Localisation for us is key and no matter what country or state we are in, we really tap into local culture to ensure from both a product and marketing standpoint we’re relevant to the audience. Ultimately, our goal is to respect Thailand’s cultural roots while introducing Kanha’s science-backed, high-quality cannabis products in a way that feels organic, immersive, and tailored to the local experience. We want to honour Thailand’s rich wellness culture, where cannabis has long been used in herbal remedies, teas, and massages. By integrating Thai Traditional Medicine with Kanha’s precision-formulated cannabis products, we create science-backed formulations that elevate infused spa treatments, cannabis tea rituals, and holistic relaxation experiences.”

As other luxury hotels observe your model, what do you think will be the next evolution in cannabis hospitality, and how is Kanha positioning itself to lead this trend?

“It’s not just about spa treatments. We also want to combine the medical expertise of the Kanha Wellness Clinic in Bangkok with the serene, beautiful setting of The Beach Samui, allowing guests to receive treatment from licensed doctors for a variety of conditions. The future of cannabis wellness will go beyond relaxation—it will include direct access to medical professionals, whether through telehealth services or on-site at wellness resorts. Travellers aren’t just looking to escape work when they go on vacation; they want relief from issues like poor sleep, chronic pain, and anxiety. That’s where we can help.

Kanha is positioning itself to lead this trend by:

“Offering Precision and Quality – With our science-backed, consistently dosed products, Kanha ensures that guests receive a reliable and personalised experience every time.

“Expanding into New Markets – Through innovation and strategic collaborations with luxury hospitality brands, we are exploring opportunities to bring cannabis-integrated wellness to other global destinations.

“Focusing on Wellness and Education – By prioritising consumer education and working closely with wellness providers, Kanha is committed to ensuring safe, responsible consumption while crafting luxury experiences that align with the evolving cannabis tourism market.

“The Beach Samui provides an ideal environment for guests to experience cannabis treatments, whether they are first-time users or looking to deepen their wellness journey. By combining science, hospitality, and holistic well-being, we are shaping the future of cannabis hospitality.”

Looking ahead, do you have plans to expand this cannabis-enhanced hotel model to other international destinations, and what criteria would you look for in potential hotel partners?

“Yes, in fact, we are launching a collaboration with Hoxton in their Downtown LA location and kicking that off this month in honour of National Sleep Month. We are offering the first sleep-focused cannabis turn-down service. We hope to expand that partnership to other Hoxton locations. When selecting potential partners, an acceptance and passion for plant medicines and cannabis is imperative. We focus on a shared vision of wellness – partners should prioritise holistic wellness and align with our commitment to quality, relaxation, and mindfulness – and a commitment to guest experience – We look for partners that are dedicated to providing memorable, elevated experiences, and are open to innovative wellness offerings.
