A basement marijuana growing operation sparked an early morning house fire in York County, police say.The fire happened around 4 a.m. at a two-story home on the 100 block of North Alpine Drive in Jackson Township, Northern York County Regional Police said.”It was determined that there was a marijuana growing operation located in the basement where the fire originated. I completed a search warrant for the residence and recovered what was left of multiple marijuana plants, loose marijuana, packaging, and what could be salvaged of the growing equipment, namely two charred UV lights,” an officer stated in the affidavit of probable cause.Tyler Snyder, 27, faces multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment and a drug charge.”He admitted that he was growing marijuana in the basement for the past few months, advising that he had a total of 6 actual marijuana plants along with about 8 other plants that were beginning to grow but that were destroyed by the fire and fire personnel putting out the fire. He admitted that he had never hooked up any equipment used for growing before doing so for these plants, admitting he did not really know what he was doing when he did so,” the affidavit said.Police said there were four adults and two children in the home at the time of the fire. Police said Snyder told them the marijuana was for his personal use and no one else was using it.Investigators said the fire started because of how carelessly the equipment was wired.Snyder was processed and arraigned.
