A husband and wife have been arrested after a search warrant was executed at a Delta 8 dispensary in Surfside Beach on Thursday, Sept. 12.
According to a Surfside Beach press release, Jason Papotto, 46, and Sabrena Papotto, 45, were charged for the alleged illegal distribution of marijuana. The drug is illegal for medical and recreational use in the state, but other hemp derivatives like CBD and Delta 8 varieties are permitted for sale in South Carolina.
According to the release, the two have been charged after an investigation found that items being sold at the shop labeled as hemp were found to contain THC levels above the legal limit. THC, or tetrahydrocannbinol, is the chemical compound that causes intoxicating or psychoactive effects, according to the National Institute of Health.
Jason Papotto is charged with two counts of distribution of marijuana and two counts of distributing marijuana in proximity to a school or park. Sabrena Papotto is being charged with the same, but with one count instead of two.
