SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND)- The City of Springfield has reopened their Cannabis Homeowner and Business grant programs.

“The purpose of this program is to use sales tax revenue generated from the legalization of marijuana to give economic opportunity and relief to areas who have in the past been impacted by cannabis related convictions,” said Julia Griffin, Operations Coordinator for the Springfield Office of Economic Development.

The programs are open to homeowners or business owners on the east side of Springfield, in the area North of Ash Street and South of Carpenter Street, as well as East of the 10th Street rail corridor and West of Dirksen Parkway.

Businesses can receive a maximum of $100,000, but must match 10% of the project cost. The funds can be used for specific items like equipment, construction, inventory purchases, and land acquisition.

Homeowners can receive a maximum of $25,000, but must match 5% of the project cost. These funds must be used to cover exterior repairs, such as accessibility ramps, roofs, and windows.
