The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) recovered around 450 pounds of marijuana stolen from a secured container earlier this month.
Around 600 pounds were initially stolen from a evidence facility trailer in Arapahoe County on April 1. Two vehicles, a light-colored 1999-2005 Chevy Silverado with an extended cab and a white 2007 Honda CRV, were identified as suspect vehicles in the burglary.
CSP and the Denver Police Department executed a search warrant on a house in the city on Thursday after Denver police found they had the Silverado in police custody for an unrelated matter, according to a press release from CSP.
No suspects were found at the property. No one was arrested, but around 450 pounds of the 600 stolen were found in the residence and in a shed on the property.
A stolen GMC pickup truck was also found on the property. It was not involved in the burglary, CSP said.
While investigating the incident, police determined that the suspects arrived after dark and used a power tool to remove locks both on a side gate and on the container. Officers then identified gaps in the facility’s security process, and have increased camera checks and security walkthroughs since the incident, in addition to undergoing an internal investigation, police said.
Anyone with information about the vehicles is asked to call CSP at 303-239-4501.
