COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Community reports are credited with keeping illegal substances off College Station streets in a recent incident, said police.

On Thursday morning around 5 a.m., College Station police along with SWAT members executed a search warrant at The Grove at Southwood apartment complex. Inside one of the units along Welsh Avenue near Southwest Parkway, police made contact with three people and found cause to arrest two.

Monica and Kaden Luna, both of College Station, were charged with Possession of Marijuana and both were booked into the Brazos County jail.

Kaden was also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. According to online jail records, he has a history of previous charges including family violence, disorderly conduct with a firearm, assault causing bodily injury, engaging in organized criminal activity, and more. He’s been booked into the county jail 11 times since 2019.

The Special Investigative Unit is the primary investigation team on this most recent case.

Ofc. David Simmons said reports of suspicious activity in the area helped lead to this investigation.

“If [people] see something that’s suspicious, give us a call. Whether that be from narcotics sales or people walking around, things like that,” Ofc. Simmons encouraged. “That way we can come out and we can investigate it, which is what led to this; us being able to investigate this and hopefully get some illegal drugs off the street.”

Police urge residents to report any suspicious activity to CSPD in order to help in the future.

“We understand the community’s concern,” said Ofc. Simmons. “We do ask the community members to be vigilant, especially in these apartment complexes or in their neighborhoods.”

Ofc. Simmons shared with KBTX his gratitude for having played a part in keeping the neighborhood safe.

“It feels good,” Ofc. Simmons added. “We strive to protect our community, to keep the community safe.”
