Three people were arrested after inspections at Connecticut smoke shops led to the seizure of a “significant amount” of alleged illegal THC products.

The Fairfield Police Department‘s Detective Division, in collaboration with the Department of Consumer Protection, Department of Mental Health Services, Department of Labor and Department of Revenue Services, conducted a series of inspections at local smoke shops on Wednesday, according to police.

The inspections at three business led to the seizure of allegedly illegal THC products, including vape pens, edibles, pre-rolls and marijuana, police said.

The three businesses under inspection were Issam Plus, located at 92 Post Road; Mohegan Smoke Shop at 525 Tunxis Hill Cutoff; and World Smoke and Cigar Shop at 95 Reef Road.

As a result of the inspections, Fairfield police arrested 36-year-old Vivekanand Harilall, an employee at World Smoke and Cigar Shop; 54-year-old Issam Madineh, owner of Issam Plus; and 50-year-old Tamer Nafaa, an employee at Issam Plus.

All three individuals are charged with sale of a controlled substance without a license and possession of marijuana over eight ounces with intent to sell or distribute were issued a court appearance date of Oct. 8 at Bridgeport Superior Court, according to police.

Additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues, police said.

“The Fairfield Police Department extends its sincere gratitude to the public for their continued vigilance and for providing valuable tips and information related to these offenses,” Fairfield Sgt. Michael Stahl said in a statement. “The department takes community concerns seriously and is actively working to address illegal activities that affect the safety and quality of life of Fairfield residents.”

Stahl also thanked the Department of Consumer Protection, Department of Mental Health Services, Department of Labor, and Department of Revenue Services “for their collaborative efforts in ensuring that these businesses comply with state regulations.”
