A new business held its grand opening Friday on Gault Avenue, as DeKalb Dispensary is now ready to serve the public.
It is the first dispensary for cannabis products in DeKalb County, owners Thomas and Paige Summerford said. The couple knows that one of their first orders of business will be educating people about what the store is, and what it is not.
It’s not medical marijuana, Thomas said.
The store offers products made with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. The products they offer are regulated by the state.
“What we offer is an alternative to” some medications, Paige said. As is often the case, there was an example close to home that help to inspire the couple toward this business. Thomas Summerford’s mother was unable to use prescription pain medications, and when she used cannabinoid products, she said she found them beneficial.
The Summerfords are glad to be part of helping people “go into the
future” and realize that cannabis is a traditional remedy.
The business offers gels, drinks, edibles, flowers, and will have ice cream, Paige said, all with less than 0.3% THC.
“We’ll have a little bit of everything,” she said, including products that can increase energy, and other products designed for relaxation.
She expressed hope their products can help people, and be used in social setting to “increase the vibe.”
Thomas explained there are different kinds of cannabinoids, as depicted on a large wall hanging in the store.
He said the products in the store contain THCA, CBC, or CBD.
The wall hanging describes those cannabinoids with the following medicinal properties:
