CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – A 16-year-old is being accused of shooting two people after taking marijuana gummies believed to be laced with a hallucinogen.
On Saturday, deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to Cardinal Road in the area of Elloree about a gunshot.
According to CCSO, they found two people: One who was pronounced dead and another who was flown to Prisma Health Richland Hospital.
Deputies spoke with a man and his 16-year-old son and determined during the investigation that the teen had taken marijuana.
The teen was taken to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed and told investigators he had taken marijuana gummies and began “feeling hot.”
Deputies said the teen stated he saw two individuals “wearing white masks” when he entered the kitchen. He said he went into his father’s bedroom, got a gun, cocked it and came back to the kitchen shooting them.
Investigators stated it is believed that the gummies were laced with a hallucinogen that made the teen believe the two individuals were wearing masks. However, they were not, according to CCSO.
The teen will be charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent offense, deputies said.
