Dominican Republic Authorities have seized over 4,000 e-cigarettes filled with marijuana and hundreds of cannabis-infused edibles during an inspection at Las Americas International Airport.
Agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and the Specialized Airport Security (CESAC) conducted the operation after canine units detected suspicious substances in packages arriving from the United States.
Following prosecutor’s instructions, officials opened four boxes containing 4,086 e-cigarettes filled with a liquid presumed to be marijuana, along with 358 cannabis-infused chocolate bars and 195 cannabis-laced chewing gums in various colours and sizes.
The shipment was addressed to a woman residing in Los Mina, Santo Domingo Este, with the sender listed as a company located on St Unit Avenue in Miami.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office and DNCD have launched a formal investigation into the illegal importation.
This interception comes as the DNCD announces an enhanced operational capacity, deploying 140 agents and canine teams to manage the increased passenger and cargo traffic during the holiday season.
