BONNEVILLE COUNTY – An Ammon man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after deputies conducted a traffic stop in which he was seen throwing drugs out of the car.
According to a news release by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Travis Leroy Peasley, 33, was pulled over near Wilson Drive when a deputy saw him open the driver-side door and throw a bag out of the window. The deputy contacted the 33-year-old and observed a female adult and two young children in the car with a partially burnt marijuana joint.
The release states that Peasley denied throwing anything out of the vehicle but later admitted the bag contained a drug pipe. The deputy retrieved the bag, where he found a broken glass pipe and approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle resulted in the deputy seizing the marijuana joint, but no other illegal substances were found.
The passengers told deputies Peasley had been smoking the joint while driving prior to being pulled over. The deputy conducted a field sobriety test on the 33-year-old in which the deputy believed Peasley was too impaired to be driving and was arrested.
The release states Peasley was taken to a local hospital, and an evidentiary blood draw was taken prior to him being taken to the Bonneville County Jail. Peasley was arrested on three misdemeanors, driving under the influence, and two counts of injury to a child.
Though Peasley has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
