The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a driver who allegedly reached speeds upwards of 140 mph while possessing nearly 20 pounds of marijuana.
According to troopers, on Sunday at 9:33 p.m., a black 2024 BMW 530i was seen speeding 30 mph over the posted 55 mph zone on State Road 82 and Bell Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.
FHP attempted to pull over the vehicle when the driver turned left and sped westbound on State Road 82, exceeding 140 mph.
While attempting to turn right onto 40th Street Southwest, the driver lost control and crashed into the left side of a stopped vehicle facing south on 40th Street Southwest.
The occupants of the victim vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital.
After crashing their vehicle, the driver fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.
Troopers examined the driver’s vehicle, where they located 17 large clear plastic bags containing what they believed to be marijuana weighing approximately 20 pounds.
FHP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect involved in the crash.
