In a startling case that has left the police puzzled, a man who once sold panipuri on the streets of Bhopal was arrested for smuggling and selling marijuana. The man, identified as Sushil, narrated a tale of desperation and survival that led him from serving snacks to trafficking drugs.
The arrest was made in the Awadhpuri area after police received a tip-off about Sushil’s activities. Acting on the information, the police apprehended him while he was allegedly looking to sell packets of marijuana. Upon searching for him, the officers found several small packets of the drug in his possession.

During questioning, Sushil revealed that he was originally from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. A few years ago, he had moved to Bhopal to earn a living by selling panipuri (golgappa) from a street cart.
However, his small business faced constant disruptions due to repeated anti-encroachment drives by the municipal corporation. His cart was seized multiple times, leaving him financially strained and frustrated.
With no means to sustain himself, Sushil decided to leave the panipuri trade behind and turn to an illegal alternative. He began bringing small quantities of marijuana from Jhansi by train and selling it in Bhopal.
By packaging the marijuana into small packets, he managed to create a network of customers in the city.
ACP Zone-2, Deepak Nayak, confirmed Sushil’s confession. “The accused admitted to transporting marijuana via trains from Jhansi and selling it in Bhopal. We are conducting further investigations to uncover the extent of his network,” he said.
