MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKRC) — Recreational marijuana is now for sale in Middletown.
The city’s first regulated recreational cannabis dispensary is now open.
Terrasana Cannabis Co., an Ohio-based marijuana company, opened their fifth location in the state in Middletown.
“I think between the Dayton and Cincinnati areas, we are in a really good hot spot to pick up a lot of people so you’re not commuting from the bigger cities,” said Bri Trent, Terrasana Middletown General Manager.
The Middletown dispensary held a soft opening on Wednesday.
“21 for adult use, 18 for medical to be in the building,” said Trent. “We have everything from flower, edibles, and vape concentrates to a little bit of all your cannabis needs.”
Trent said that the location also brings jobs. The dispensary currently employs 12 people. She said that the city seems very receptive to the new business.
“I think they’re optimistic about the opportunities we’re going to bring to the community and also the money that it’s going to bring to the community,” said Trent.
However, she said that the reactions she has seen from residents are mixed.
“I’ve been on a few online forums and saw some concerns,” said Trent. “A lot of it was just we don’t want drugs in our communities , we don’t want the kids on drugs, it’s not what this is, and that’s not what we’re doing.”
Those are concerns Trent is hoping to ease.
“I feel like once people get educated and better informed, the perspective will change,” said Trent.
Trent said that they will have an official opening and ribbon-cutting at their location on Friday at 10 a.m. Under an ordinance passed last year, Middletown could have as many as two more dispensaries.
