It began in California, when dispensaries noticed an increase in sales the day before Thanksgiving.Some experts cite a combination of family drama, social anxiety and stressful travel situations as reasons for the increase.The Landing Dispensary, located in Oakley, gave people an alternative to alcohol with 30 percent discounts on “Green Wednesday.””The day before Thanksgiving is a really big drinking day, and ever since cannabis has become an option, it has definitely hopped on the holiday,” Nelson said.Nelson also said Green Wednesday is a way to break the stigma of marijuana as a way of becoming like any other holiday staple. They plan to do sales for more holidays in the future.
