Warren County District Attorney Rob Greene testified before the Pennsylvania Senate Law and Justice Committee regarding legalization of adult-use marijuana back in Feb. 2022. He has since announced that he won’t seek another term amid a shift to cannabis advocacy.

A marijuana legalization coalition has used comments from former President Donald Trump – and Warren County District Attorney Rob Greene – in its advocacy efforts.

ResponsiblePA issued a press release this week highlighting the comments.

The group highlighted a post on “Truth Social” from Trump that claimed it was time to “end needless arrests and incarcerations of adults for small amounts of marijuana for personal use.”

They also highlighted a new poll that purportedly shows 84 percent favorability for medical marijuana and 62 percent for “broader adult-use legalization” in swing states including Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

“As a third-term Republican DA in small town Pennsylvania, I have always said cannabis legalization and sensible regulation is a bipartisan political issue,” Greene said, according to the release. “We need to legalize adult-use marijuana in Pennsylvania with sensible regulation that obliterates the thriving illicit market, gives clear guidance to law enforcement and provides a quality regulated product that benefits PA Farmers, small business and the People of Pennsylvania.”

INJUNCTION REQUEST DENIED

Back in January, Greene and the Second Amendment Foundation took federal officials to court over his inability to possess firearms while holding a medical marijuana card.

A request for a preliminary injunction – which would stop the enforcement action by the federal government while the litigation plays out – was denied this week in federal district court.

That order came down on Tuesday from District Judge Cathy Bissoon.

Bissoon found that the plaintiffs, Greene included, “have failed to identify any specific circumstances that would establish irreparable harm under the stipulated facts of this case. The court likewise finds no such supporting facts in the record. Although Plaintiff Greene alleges that he can neither obtain nor possess firearms due to his (medical marijuana) card, such prohibition is temporary, and he could regain those rights by ending his marijuana use. Plaintiff Greene also fails to allege a persuasive time-sensitive need to possess the desired firearms.”
