Heady NJ is highlighting and celebrating the importance of an underground legacy to legal cannabis pathways at our forum and party this Saturday in Newark.
Our celebration will be at the Takeoff Lounge at 51 Austin Street, close to McCarter Highway/21 in the heart of Newark!
It is a significant issue. Many in the New Jersey cannabis industry became passionate about the plant when it was illegal.
While many in the New Jersey cannabis industry could be called legacy to legal, not everyone wants to admit since it used to have so many negative side effects and stigma.
Many of the legacy to legal businesspeople in the industry are passionate about social justice, providing great cannabis products, and great customer service more than those merely driven to maximize profit.
Social Justice and Cannabis
New Jersey legalized cannabis in 2020 in the wake of the mass George Floyd Black Lives Matters protests and the social justice wave that followed.
Many suffered greatly from the negative consequences of the racist and failed War on Drugs. People spent a lot of time and money fighting charges and ultimately serving time away from their families and communities. It is especially hard when many of the potential family breadwinners are locked away.
Many believe those who suffered the most on the frontlines should benefit the most. However, like any highly regulated industry highly regulated, it is not easy. So, we want to highlight different options for people.
Meet Our New Legacy to Legal Forum Panelists THIS Saturday in Newark!
Our forum will feature a panel with Big Dave of Honey Grove dispensary in Blackwood/Clementon, One Green Leaf dispensary Customer Service Manager Sharnay Tokley, Max of URB’N dispensary in Newark and Rui of NJ Garden State of Mind moderated by Heady NJ Editor Dan Ulloa!
Big Dave is the Chief Cannabis Officer of HoneyGrove Dispensary and HoneyStash (Opening March 2025). He is from Bloomfield near Newark. With his decades of legacy life behind him, Dave is especially grateful for the opportunity to be part of the legal cannabis industry in his home state.
So, he has been in the cannabis industry for 28 years. Twenty of them were spent away from home perfecting cultivation techniques in Maine’s legacy and medical marijuana markets. Big Dave will always be an advocate for cannabis criminal justice reform and for people’s homegrow rights!
HoneyGrove is a licensed Medical and Adult Use cannabis dispensary located in Blackwood/Clementon in South Jersey. They tirelessly curate and refine their menu to offer the best cannabis retail experience in the Garden State. HoneyGrove offers only products they stand behind.
Their second location, HoneyStash, is slated to open in Metuchen, NJ (with a drive-thru) in March 2025.

One Green Leaf Customer Service Supervisor, Sharnay Tokley, is a cannabis enthusiast with a 20-year relationship with the plant as a consumer, businessperson, and advocate.
She started a boutique-infused goods line, LoudNSweet Treats, in 2018, making small batches of cannabis-infused oils and butter. Tokley was one of the first graduates of Stockton University’s Cannabis Studies Certification in October 2020.
Ramez “Max” Maxemous has over 20 years of experience running different businesses, including an independent pharmacy, before opening his dispensary. URB’N is a medical and adult-use recreational dispensary in Newark that opened after an intense 4-year process. Max was one of the 2019-2021 medical cannabis license winners.
Rui has developed NJ Garden State of Mind as a great event company. They work with licensed dispensaries and other companies to hold cannabis parties where people often paint and puff at parties. He also dropped his own pre-roll in the market!
Now that the legal Jersey cannabis market has independent businesses operating, we have great examples of legacy to legal paths!
Heady NJ is bringing together NJ cannabis consumers, professionals, and patients to have fun, hang out, network, and talk about the biggest issues in New Jersey cannabis!
