HILO, Hawaii (Island News) – Hilo police recently announced that a man was arrested for the attempted distribution of methamphetamine and marijuana concentrate, as well as numerous firearm related offenses.

Chico Martines, 48, of Hilo was arrested and charged after 110 grams of methamphetamine, 70 grams of marijuana concentrate, drug paraphernalia, a loaded Taurus 9mm semiautomatic pistol with a high-capacity magazine, and ammunition was found at his residence on Alae St.

Marines are scheduled to make his initial first appearance on Friday afternoon in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody with his bail set at $560,0000.

Martines is charged with Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree, Attempted Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree, Promoting a Harmful Drug in the First Degree, Attempted Promoting a Harmful Drug in the First Degree, Promoting a Controlled Substance In, On, or Near Schools, Ownership or Possession of Firearm Prohibited, Ownership or Possession of Ammunition Prohibited, Ownership Prohibited, and Alteration of Identification Marks Prohibited.

The most serious offenses are Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree, Attempted Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree, Promoting a Harmful Drug in the First Degree, and Attempted Promoting a Harmful Drug in the First Degree. They are all class A felony offenses that carry a penalty of either a 20-year prison term or 10-years probation and up to 24-months in jail.

The felony investigation was handled by the Area I Vice Section, Hawaii Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Elyssa Correia Keltner.
