Hundreds of plants were seized by police in a dawn raid on a cannabis farm.

Officers on the Bolton division of Greater Manchester Police swooped on the property at 8.30am on Friday after what’s been described as a tip-off.

The force said a ‘planned warrant’ was executed at Blackshaw House off Thornbank North, near Heaton Cemetery in Bolton. More than 220 cannabis plants were found inside.

Police said a man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, abstracting electricity and Illegally entering the UK.

In a statement on Friday afternoon, police said he remained in custody for questioning. No age for the suspect has been given.

A GMP spokesperson said: “The plants will now be sent off for analysis, while an issue with the electricity supply was also resolved.

Inspector Keiron Maddocks, from GMP’s Bolton South Neighbourhood Policing Team, issued an appeal to the wider public for their help to locate cannabis grows.

He said: “We take any information or intelligence submitted by the public seriously – it plays an important role in our investigations and we will act on it where appropriate.

“Please, let us know if you have any concerns about drug activity in your local area – anybody who has any information or concerns regarding ongoing crime within their community should contact GMP on 101 or via the reporting tools on our website, or by calling Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.”

The force said figures showed GMP seized more than 700 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £500,000 last month alone. A total of nine warrants were executed across Greater Manchester and subsequently, six cannabis farms were discovered.
