CALAVERAS COUNTY, California — Authorities have dismantled an illegal marijuana cultivation site following a suspicious vehicle investigation, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies discovered 792 marijuana plants and 180 pounds of processed marijuana valued at over $387,000.

On December 28, 2024, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies assisted the California Highway Patrol with a suspicious vehicle on Michel Road. Upon arrival, two vehicles were found, one unoccupied and later towed. The other vehicle contained a male subject who left the scene but was later re-contacted due to vehicle code violations. During the second contact, four additional male subjects from Richmond, California, were found inside the vehicle. Deputies discovered numerous 55-gallon trash bags containing approximately 180 pounds of marijuana, believed to have been recently cut down and taken without permission. Burglary tools, face masks, and a scale were also found in the vehicle.

Deputies returned to the 6200 block of Michel Road, where they discovered a residence with a large metal shop showing fresh pry marks on the door frame. A search revealed an indoor illegal marijuana operation. The Marijuana Enforcement Unit obtained a search warrant, confirming illegal cultivation. Deputies eradicated marijuana plants from four rooms within the shop.

The suspects, identified as Salvador Gonzalez, age 30; Antonio Hernandez-Gonzalez, age 22; Roman Moreno, age 20; Miguel Ochoa, age 26; and Brayant Pineda-Patino, age 19, face various charges, including H&S 11357(a), H&S 11359(B), PC 182(a)(1), CVC 21460(a), and PC 466.
