Illinois released sales figures for adult-use cannabis in January today, a bit later than normal. They were down 8.5% sequentially to $140.2 million. The year-over-year growth was 4.8%, better than the decline in December:
Units sold increased by 11.5% from a year ago, suggesting lower prices or substitution of lower-priced products by consumers. Units sold fell 12.3% sequentially.
After increasing 106% in 2021, 13% in 2022 and then 5% in 2023, year-to-date adult-use sales were up 5.4% in 2024 to $1.72 billion. During December, sales to non-residents were 20.5%:
The state separately releases sales from its medical program, and the release for January showed that sales fell 8.6% sequentially to $21.5 million, which was down 11.8% from a year ago:
For January, combined adult-use and medical sales were $161.7 million, decreasing 8.5% sequentially and up 2.2% from a year ago.:
Total sales of $2.01 billion in 2024 were up 2% from 2023.
