Illinois released sales figures for adult-use cannabis in February today, much later than the statue usually does. The state’s adult-use cannabis sales were down 6.8% sequentially to $130.6 million, and this was an increase on a per-day basis of 3.1%. The year-over-year growth was -3.7%, worse than the gain in January and than the small decline in December:
Units sold increased by 4.9% from a year ago, suggesting lower prices or substitution of lower-priced products by consumers. Units sold fell 3.6% sequentially.
After increasing 106% in 2021, 13% in 2022 and then 5% in 2023, year-to-date adult-use sales were up 5.4% in 2024 to $1.72 billion. So far in 2025, they have increased 0.5%. During February, sales to non-residents were 20.7%:
The state separately releases sales from its medical program, and the release for February showed that sales fell 8.0% sequentially to $19.7 million, which was down 19.2% from a year ago:
For February, combined adult-use and medical sales were $150.4 million, decreasing 7.0% sequentially and down 6.0% from a year ago.:
Total sales of $2.01 billion in 2024 were up 2.5% from 2023. So far in 2025, they have declined by 1.9% compared to the first two months of 2024.
