Illinois marijuana sales took a 7% month-over-month dip in February, falling to $150.3 million from January’s tally of $161.7 million, according to statistics from the state Cannabis Regulation Oversight Officer.
Recreational sales – the lion’s share of the market – pulled in $130.6 million for the month, down from $140.2 million the month prior, while medical dispensary sales were down to $19.7 million from $21.5 million.
Sales were also down year-over-year from $160 million in February 2024, which included $135.6 million in recreational sales and $24.4 million in medical sales.
But in 2024, January was the worst sales month, with $158.1 million in total sales. The market rebounded quickly in February, before another dip in September, which was followed by a stellar holiday sales season to close out the year.
So far this year, that trend hasn’t repeated itself, according to state data.
Wholesale sales also took a downturn in February, dipping to $55.7 million from $58.4 million in January. That category of sales has also been trending downward for most of the past year, according to state data.
Cannabis flower comprised by far the most recreational retail sales for consumers in February, with $74.8 million in sales, followed by extracts at $48.4 million in sales, and edibles coming in third at $18.9 million in sales.
The average retail prices for adult-use retail cannabis goods have also been trending downward, the state reported, with a gram of flower now costing an average of $8.40, down from a peak of $17.50 in April 2020.
