INDIANA. (WFIE) – Indiana’s Democratic candidate for Governor Jennifer McCormick released her plan for legalized marijuana in the Hoosier state.

McCormick says legalizing cannabis will benefit citizens and the economy. Her plan laid out several steps to get things started.

First, she hopes to establish an Indiana Cannabis Commission.

McCormick then wants the state to legalize medical marijuana, before transitioning to full adult-use legalization.

She says the road map has been laid out by other states who have legalized marijuana.

“We’re on an island,” said McCormick. “All the states around are on some level legalizing marijuana and have benefited in several ways. It is time for Indiana to join in on this policy.”

In a debate earlier this year, her opponent, Republican U.S. Senator Mike Braun, said was opening to talking about the legalization of medical marijuana, but not recreational.
