The Indigenous Industry Cannabis Association (ICIA) will host its third-ever Wisconsin Cannabis Industry and Policy Summit in Crandon Feb. 27-28 at Mole Lake Casino.
The summit is a Wisconsin-based conference for Indigenous communities to learn more about the potential for cannabis. It brings primarily Wisconsin Indigenous communities together, but has previously seen people from around the country hear about the impacts of cannabis and its industry developments for Native Americans. Now, in its third iteration, the Wisconsin Cannabis Industry and Policy Summit will focus on “Embracing Wellness.”
Summit topics range from legislative and policy, progress towards cannabis reform, industry opportunities and innovations, the current market in Wisconsin, health and wellness, and legalization efforts for medical cannabis from Wisconsin Wellness.
“The Summit is more than just a conference — it’s a movement to shape a sustainable, inclusive future for cannabis and hemp in Wisconsin,” said Rob Pero, founder of ICIA. “By bringing together the perspectives of our community we can cultivate understanding, bridge gaps, and empower communities through informed data and shared lessons.”
This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Joseph Rosado. He brings expertise in the medical field on the effectiveness of medicinal cannabis, CBD and ketamine therapies as alternatives methods to treat chronic conditions. Rosado has written multiple books on the viability of treatment using cannabis to treat pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and mental health.
Efforts to hone in on the medical applications and wellness have shifted ICIA’s focus from full reform to medicinal use. In September 2024, ICIA formed a new conjunctive group, Wisconsin Wellness, with other Indigenous advocates to at least try to push legislation to open the doors for medicinal cannabis. Medicinal reform has been shown to be well supported by the majority of Wisconsinites, yet state legislation continues to drag its feet on the issue.
Tickets for the Cannabis Industry and Policy Summit are currently on sale. The summit will be held at Mole Lake Casino Lodge, 3084 Wisconsin 55, Crandon, on February 27 from 8-7 p.m.
