CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – As of Jan. 1, Kentucky will begin its new medical marijuana program, and plans are already in the works for a dispensary in Oak Grove. However, Tennesseans considering crossing State Line Road to join in better think twice: You have to have a Kentucky ID.

For Kentucky residents, if you are over 18 with a doctor’s permission, you can now buy medical cannabis in raw plant, edible, tincture, and – for those over 21 – vape form. If you’re under 18, you’ll need an adult caregiver, according to Clarksville Now news partner WKRN-Channel 2 in Nashville.

But Tennessee does not allow medical marijuana, and if you’re thinking about crossing state lines to get a Kentucky medical marijuana ID, that won’t work either. You have to be a resident of Kentucky.

Oak Grove’s first dispensary could open soon. In November, a dispensary license was granted to Mallard Club LLC through a statewide license lottery.
