CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Kentucky has issued its first two medical marijuana cards, marking a significant step in the state’s medical cannabis program.
Governor Andy Beshear personally handed out the cards at the state capitol on Thursday.
Beshear said approximately 2,200 additional individuals have been approved for medical marijuana cards. To obtain a card, residents must secure a certification from an authorized practitioner. So far, more than 6,500 people have visited authorized practitioners to seek certification.
Despite the issuance of medical marijuana cards, there is currently no product available for purchase in Kentucky. Governor Beshear expressed optimism about the situation, saying he believes the state should soon have a clearer timeline for when medical marijuana will be available on shelves.
