CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Kentucky’s medical cannabis program is facing scrutiny after the state auditor received complaints regarding the lottery system used to award licenses.
These licenses, which are highly sought after, permit businesses to grow, process, and sell medical cannabis to eligible individuals. Thousands of applications were submitted for the licenses.
Governor Andy Beshear defended the lottery system and how it was implemented.
“The lotteries offered a fair opportunity to all who applied,” said Beshear.
He added that the regulations were reviewed by lawmakers and that the award process was transparent.
However, Auditor Allison Ball announced her intention to investigate the complaints. She did not disclose the identities of those who lodged the complaints.
