As part of an ongoing investigation, a Pike County man was arrested on charges including endangering the welfare of a minor after he allegedly smoked marijuana in the presence of two children, one of whom later tested positive for drugs.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Kentucky State Police Trooper Zachary Burgess, he was called to assist social service case workers in finding Cassie L. Smith and her two children on Jan. 22. They were found living at the residence of Michael Robinette, 59, of Runyons Branch, Pinsonfork.
“The living conditions were not suitable for children,” Burgess wrote in the complaint. “Also, Cassie Smith stated ‘we’ had smoked in front of the kids.”
The complaint further states that the 1-year-old child tested positive for THC (the main psychoactive chemical in marijuana) and methamphetamine. The complaint added the second child — a 3-month-old infant — was unable to be tested.
Robinette was arrested on Feb. 13 on charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and receiving stolen property.
As of presstime, Robinette remained in custody, according to jail records.
