LaPlace man arrested after four elementary students allegedly ate THC edibles
A man was arrested after four elementary school students allegedly ate edible gummies at LaPlace school. Kerry Clofer of LaPlace was arrested after the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of four students at East St. John Preparatory Academy being under the influence of THC edibles.The four students ranging from ages 10-12 ate the THC edibles that were brought to school by an 11-year-old student and they were all taken to a local hospital for treatment. Detectives began an investigation into the incident and found that the student had taken a package of THC edibles from their parent/guardian at home and brought them to school where they handed them out to other students. When they went to the student’s house in the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue, they searched the home and found more illegal drugs. Deputies found 1,300 grams of THC edibles, multiple methamphetamine tablets, and drug paraphernalia in the home. Clofer was charged with possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I drug (marijuana), possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, cruelty to a juvenile.His bond is set at $14,000.
