LAPLACE, La. (WVUE) – A LaPlace man faces multiple charges, including possession of illegal narcotics and cruelty to juveniles, after four students at East St. John Preparatory Academy consumed THC-infused edibles brought to school by an 11-year-old student.
The incident occurred on Thursday (Dec. 5), prompting deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office to respond to the school.
Four students — aged 12, 11, and two 10-year-olds — were reportedly under the influence of THC, with one requiring hospitalization.
Detectives investigating the case learned that the 11-year-old student had taken a package of THC edibles from their home, consumed some, and distributed the rest to classmates.
A court-authorized search of the child’s residence in the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue uncovered over 1,300 grams of THC edibles, methamphetamine tablets, and drug paraphernalia.
Kerry Clofer, identified as the child’s guardian, was arrested during the search.
Clofer was arrested and booked with possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I drug (marijuana), possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and cruelty to a juvenile.
His bond was set at $14,000.
