LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — More Kentucky medical marijuana businesses will find out if they were selected through a license lottery drawing on Monday.

These licenses are for cultivators and processors, not dispensaries. A cultivator grows and cures medical cannabis.

A processor turns the raw material into usable products like edibles. There were hundreds of cultivator and processor license applications, but the lottery will select 16 cultivators and 10 processors.

Across the three cultivator tiers, there were 584 business license applications submitted and for processor there was 334.

“We want to make sure that folks are experiencing a fair process,” said Sam Flynn, executive director of the Kentucky Medical Cannabis program. “We want it to be fair for everybody that’s involved and that’s serious about being part of this business. And we want to make sure that nobody is trying to game the system.”
