A Clearfield County man is facing charges after he was allegedly driving under the influence of meth and other drugs on July 3.
State police in DuBois have charged Jeffrey Charles McClure, 51, of Luthersburg, with one felony count of the manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; six counts of the use/possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of a controlled substance, each misdemeanors; one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana; three counts of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and a controlled substance, each misdemeanors; and is cited for traffic violations, according to a criminal complaint filed at Magisterial District Judge David Meholick’s office Dec. 23.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on July 3, 2024, a DuBois state police officer was on patrol on Woodward Road in Huston Township when he observed a gray Chevrolet Avalanche traveling south. The truck passed by the police vehicle while pulling a trailer, during which time the passenger-side tires were off of the roadway. The trailer did not appear to have a registration plate displayed. The officer caught up to the vehicle, and the driver once again partially drove off the right side of the roadway. The passenger-side brake light on the trailer was also reportedly not functioning. A traffic stop was initiated on Woodward Road.
The driver was identified as McClure via his driver’s license. The officer observed him to be extremely nervous, and his hands were shaking. McClure was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the affidavit of probable cause. McClure reportedly had difficulty locating his registration or insurance cards, and the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. As McClure complied in exiting the vehicle, the officer observed a glass smoking device in the interior door pocket. McClure said it was a marijuana pipe, and said he smoked marijuana three days prior. He said he did not possess a medical marijuana card.
During a search of McClure, police located a pill bottle in his front left pocket. McClure said it was marijuana in a bottle. During field sobriety testing, McClure allegedly displayed several indicators of impairment. He was taken into custody for suspicion of a DUI.
McClure consented to a blood draw at Penn State DuBois on July 3, 2024. The results, received on July 22, 2024, showed that his blood contained Delta-9 Carboxy THC; Benzoylecgonine (inactive metabolite of cocaine); amphetamine; and methamphetamine, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
On July 29, 2024, a search warrant was granted for McClure’s truck. A glass smoking device was recovered, as well as a broken glass smoking device; a straw; seven small baggies; a working digital scale; three baggies containing suspected methamphetamine; a plastic container with suspected methamphetamine; and a baggie with suspected marijuana.
A preliminary hearing date for McClure has not been set yet, according to court documents.
