Two properties in central Maine believed to be illegal marijuana grow houses connected with international crime are now owned by the U.S. government.

Earlier this month, court records show a judge ordered 368 West Ridge Road in Cornville to be forfeited to the government.

Since the owners didn’t respond to the criminal complaints against them, a judge ordered the forfeiture by default along with another property in Corinna, which is also believed to be an illegal grow house.

Federal authorities say illegal grow operations are happening all over rural parts of the country, including in Maine, many with ties to Chinese organized crime.
