A man was today arrested by police after the seizure of cannabis plants said to be worth more than £10,000 in a dawn raid.

Officers in Bolton swooped to target a property on Century Lodge, in Farnworth, early on Wednesday, December 4. It followed a tip-off about a suspected cannabis farm being in operation.

Police forced entry into the building, where they found between 20 and 25 cannabis plants in the loft. Greater Manchester Police said the electricity supply had also been bypassed at the property ‘as part of a sophisticated setup’.

On Saturday (December 14), police issued a new statement and confirmed a 58 year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and was in custody for questioning. The investigation is ongoing and the haul will be destroyed, GMP said.

Sergeant Jess Prudence, of GMP’s Bolton town centre team, said: “This is a prime example of us as officers acting on information to keep our communities safe.

“We know drugs supply has a devastating impact and far-reaching consequences across Greater Manchester, and especially in Bolton we are determined to continue our approach of taking the fight back to the criminals to criminal activity that matters to our residents. The work done by our team into this continues daily to uncover those who are intent on committing crime.

“I would like to remind the people of Bolton to continue to report your concerns to us, as all credible reports of information helps us build an intelligence picture to continue with our work of conducting meaningful warrants.”

News of the arrest was posted on Facebook by GMP Bolton. The suspect hasn’t been named.
