One man is in custody, accused of nearly hitting a deputy during a chase.The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics & Interdiction Task Force made a traffic stop on Interstate 20 near Pelahatchie.During the stop, deputies smelled marijuana. As they were about to search the SUV, deputies said the driver, Tyrone Dorsey, drove away. The 30-year-old is from Petersburg, Virginia.During a chase involving the Rankin and Scott County sheriff’s departments, one of the deputies tried to put out spike strips to stop the vehicle.Officials said Dorsey swerved to avoid the spikes and nearly hit the deputy who was deploying them.The vehicle came to a stop soon after. A woman and three children were also inside the vehicle. No one was hurt.Deputies took Dorsey into custody. He is charged with felony fleeing, tampering with physical evidence, felony child endangerment and attempted aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer in Scott County.
