HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) – Friday morning, the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office apprehended 38-year-old Anthony Lavar Simmons for trafficking in marijuana.
During an operation, the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office found Simmons to be in possession of over 30 pounds of marijuana.
Simmons was denied bond and is currently at the Hampton County Detention Center.
In a social media post, the Hampton County Sheriff’s office wrote that the arrest was made possible with the help of K-9 Achilles and his handler, Hughes.
“Our K-9 units are essential to our mission of keeping drugs off the streets. Achilles did an outstanding job in locating these narcotics, reinforcing the vital role of our K-9 team in protecting the community,” stated Sheriff Anthony Russell.
The sheriff also said they remain dedicated to continuing the efforts of targeting illegal drug sources.
“We remain dedicated to targeting the sources of illegal drugs in our county and protecting our citizens,” said Sheriff Russell. “Marijuana is illegal in the State of South Carolina, and this arrest sends a strong message to those engaged in drug trafficking that Hampton County will continue to pursue justice with all resources available.”
