Deputies of St. John the Baptist Parish have booked a Laplace man, Kerry Clofer  for possession of illegal narcotics and cruelty to juveniles, after four students at East St. John Preparatory Academy were exposed to THC-infused edibles brought to school by an 11-year-old student.

The incident occurred on Thursday, which prompted a response from deputies of the Sheriff’s office, according to a statement by the Sheriff’s office. The four students between the ages 10-12 who had eaten the THC edibles were all taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives found that the student had taken a package of THC edibles from their guardian at home and brought them to school handed them out to other students. A court authorized search of the student’s house in the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue, revealed more illegal drugs.

The deputies had found 1,300 grams of THC edibles, multiple methamphetamine tablets, and drug paraphernalia in the home.

Clofer, identified as the child’s guardian, was arrested during the search and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I drug (marijuana), possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, cruelty to a juvenile with his bond set at $14,000.

He was being held Friday at the Lt. Sherman Walker Correctional Center in LaPlace.
