Under the Drugs-free Mangaluru initiative of Mangaluru City Police, the Central Crime Branch police on Friday, arrested a man for allegedly transporting and selling cannabis and seized 6.7 kg of the contraband in Mulki.

A police release here stated that the accused Akhilesh, 30, is a resident of Ambalapady in Udupi. Acting on a tip off, the CCB team apprehended him in Bappanadu of Mulki when he was allegedly attempting to sell cannabis to public.

The seized material included ₹1.62 lakh worth cannabis, a mobile phone and ₹660 cash. A case was registered with the Mulki police.

Akhilesh allegedly brought the cannabis from Mumbai by train and sold it for gain in and around Mulki to the public and students. He faces cases of theft in Mangaluru East, drug peddling in Malpe, assault in Hiriyadka, and drug abuse in Udupi CEN stations.

The arrest was made by a team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Naik, Inspector H.M. Shyam Sundar, Sub Inspector M.V. Sudeep, ASIs Rama Poojary and Sheenappa and other staff.
