A Pembrokeshire man was caught driving his smart car with nearly five times the legal limit of cannabis in his system during a routine police stop check.
Police pulled over Antonio Rodrigues on an unclassified road near Slebech just before 3pm on September 13 last year.
A roadside swipe tested positive for cannabis and a blood sample taken at the police station gave a result of 9.8ug/L. The legal limit for driving is two.
Rodrigues admitted driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on February 11.
The court heard that this was the second conviction for this type of offence within ten years.
Mike Kelleher, defending, said that Rodrigues, 27, of Steynton Road, Milford Haven, had taken cannabis some nights before his arrest.
He added that there was nothing wrong with his driving and that he had no idea that he was over the limit.
He said that Rodrigues took cannabis medicinally and was in the process of applying for a prescription to make that legal.
He added that Rodrigues was about to start a new job and that he would be able to attend his place of work without a vehicle.
Magistrates fined Rodrigues £120 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge.
They also disqualified him from driving for 36 months.
